Pool Steps and ledges do not only add aesthetics to a pool; they also ensure the ease of access and safety of the swimmers especially kids, elderly and differently-abled individuals. Pool steps can be classified as normal, wide and spacious, and ledge-type. With that being said, cleaning pool steps and ledges is different for each type.
Normal Stairs are the ones that we typically see on most pools, especially the older ones. Composed of at least three to five steps, normal stairs are essentially narrow and they are ideal in maximizing the size of the swimming area of small pools since that they do not take too much space. They are classic and they complement almost all shapes of pools. The good thing about them is that they can be situated even at the snuggest area of the pool. Normal stairs should always be kept tidy to avoid dirt or scum from collecting on the edges and corners of the steps. Basic pool vacuums are best for this type of stairs, although using an automatic cleaner can be more efficient. To ensure that every nook and corner of the steps are cleaned thoroughly, the use of an appropriate cleaning solution can be really handy.
Wide and spacious stairs, as the term implies, are broader than the normal steps although they have the same number of steps as the normal stairs. Because having wider pool steps would take larger amount of space from the swimming area, they are ideal for relatively larger pools. They make entry to the pool a whole lot easier since that the steps are, again, wider. If tastefully designed, they can be a great focal point for the pool. The downside, though, is that they are multiple times more time-consuming to maintain than normal pools because they have wider surface area. Although typical pool vacuums can be used to maintain this type of pool steps, automatic pool cleaners would be of greater advantage.
Pool ledges are also known as swim-out shelves or tanning ledges. They are normally characterized by a platform that is shallow and wide, and they are generally built with a depth of 500 mm and a width of 400 to 600 mm. They are enormously useful especially for kids and toddlers as well as their parents who want to supervise them while they play in the water. Additionally, they can also be heaven-sent for adults who do not know how to swim. Oftentimes, algae accumulate on them and this makes them slippery, so it is extremely necessary that they are regularly scrubbed. Cleaning pool ledges are pretty straightforward. In fact, they are the easiest to maintain among the three types mentioned here considering that they don’t have as much number of steps as the previous ones. Rigid scrubbing across the surface is necessary. The use of algaecide can also be considered to make sure that the growth of algae is prevented.
Each type of pool steps has its own set of advantages and disadvantages especially in terms of keeping them tidy. The bottom line is that with the right kind of pool cleaner, maintain them should not be that difficult. Also, it pays to allot an ample amount of time cleaning the pool steps to make sure that swimmers can enjoy without the likelihood of experiencing any accident.
